About This Website

While studying at the Technical University in Liberec, enjoying the user friendliness of gopher, one of the lecturers (Richard "We're not going to do anything today. Well, I'm not going to do anything, you can do whatever you want!" Pech) got me interested in WWW. He also got me hooked up on vi(m), which I'd otherwise dismiss as unreasonably obscure.

Instead of understanding the obscurities of the SAP R2 system while at Spolana, a.s. (yes, the chlorine hazard jugglers) I was glad I could take a break from this student placement program in exchange to one in the UK. I had fun trying to export a MS Access database onto web.

Too bad the era is too old even for wayback machine ;)

Of course I also worked on my personal pages, which dealt mostly with electronic music, my passion at that time. After a while I was contacted by a great fella, Tomáš Moščák, and my pages have been hosted on this pinknet server ever since for which I'm greatful.

Over time I sort of phased out the music content with artwork, but you can still check out some of it in the music section.

the Czech Scene Music archives

As I was experimenting with PHP I created Czech Scene Music Archives, a poorman's version of the Hornet archive ;) (which I never bothered porting to PHP3).

Sometimes people ask me about the tools I use to create websites. I'm proud I'm using free software for all my graphic/web work. For graphics I've used the marvelous GIMP. I've recently switched from proprietary Adobe Illustrator 9 to Inkscape. Not very often, but ocasionally I do stuff in Blender.

For maintainability and not having to type a lot, I use PHP and have assembled a private class for rendering a lot of html. I run a local Apache and mysql and rsync stuff over ssh. I use both the mysql CLI client & phpmyadmin. For the actual text editing I use gvim. So there, pretty much my complete toolbox.

Oh and in case you wish to bribe me, here's some tips.
