With XGL and Compiz, it's possible to make use of animation to better visualise what's happening on the screen. Animation is not a gimmick, it is very a effective aid in understanding what's happening on the screen.

Creating Folder On the Desktop

Showing Downloads

Locating downloaded files can be sometimes hard. The mockup shows a download manager that's show in the system tray when there are pending downloads. It allows to list current downloads and also see a download history. After each download is finished a notification is shown.
