Dear lazyweb,
do you have a working xorg.conf for an imac g4 + external VGA xinerama setup?

Yours desperate

You’re the most known and recognized openSUSE/SUSE user…
Tell me, why XGL is default way to run Compiz?

It’s running buggy on opensource ATI drivers, and there’s no way to run Compiz without XGL in GNOME, without “–replace” :( .

Also, YaST has many problems with specifis hardware configuration (eg. LIRC), and services manager is so ugly and unuseable…

I’d use openSUSE if those issues were fixed.

Livio, I’m hardly competent to answer your question. A much better place to ask is the general opensuse mailing list or opensuse-xorg list. See http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate/Mailinglists

  3. Livio Says:

    Ok, I’ll ask.

Can you tell me, how do you find YaST :> ?

While trying to set up a second screen on one of iMac’s (under Mac OS) i ran into the same problem. Further reading told me that….

Some iMacs do NOT support expanded screens, only clone. It’s a limitation on the vidio card. The iMac was of older kind, with ATI card inside.

Check if you have the same problem.

daniel: in mac os, it’s a software lock. There is an unlock utility for osx I have succesfully used. This is an nvidia card. I’ve googled out success stories with sparse info, but xorg.conf has defeated me and I never assembled a working config.

macs have no connector table, so unless I’ve explicitly added support for your model, it may or may not work depending on whether or not the default connector setup matches your setup. Your best bet is ati git master. If it turns out your mac isn’t supported, contact me and we can work though adding support. After that, use xrandr to configure multi-head on the fly.

The imac I have has nvidia. geforce 4mx if i remember correctly. Looks like I need to wait a bit for the on-the-fly xorg to get shipped. Can’t wait.
