openSUSE 11 Installer

I have spent most of my hackweek mocking up and styling the new Yast installer for openSUSE 11. Coolo’s implementation of the old mockup I made for 10.3 really showed things can be done.
I must say I am very impressed with Qt CSS-like styling (yea, proper documentation
. It felt very refreshing compared to the usual minor gtkrc tweakage I need to pull off from time to time. The stylesheet remains very readable to people with web experience. You can do funky things on top of the common CSS attributes – use gradients on fills and borders, RGBA colors (yea, things really composite well), and combination of both. Coolo also added scalable backgrounds hack for the extra abuse we might need.

Work in progress – avoid color banding. I know, it’s GREEEEEEN.
The slight limitation is 16bit color, so all the gradients needed to be dithered, but I’m quite fond of the result (still WIP, mind you).
You can see some scaling artifacts which should be gone with smooth filtering enabled now. Now on to fix some of the sucky images of the slideshow. openSUSE 11.0 is gonna rock.

Looks awesome! I saw the mockups in the openSUSE Wiki, but that that’s an actual working template is great!
“openSUSE 11.0 is gonna rock.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Is that the actual text you show during install? Pretty funny, but not very “prefessional”.
Apart from that… yeah Qt4 is pretty nice, and I speak as a Gnome user.
I want to have a desktop where I can run GTK and Qt software side by side and don’t see any difference.

I’d just like to register that the actual text in the slide show is absolutely hilarious. I highly support singing.

WHOA!!! That’s a beautiful job! And, easy on the eyes for those of us with visual-impairments/blindness. This definitely better be in 11.0!
+1 (and since I’m from Chicago where we vote over and over again… +1, +1, +1, +1)

It would be cool though if you could play a game, or browse the internet as the system is installing, like a live cd

Yay, people like it for a change! Thanks for the comments guys.
Z3ro: Live installer is available for 10.3 even. I tend to prefer that way too, picking what I want before downloading, fast image copy, no 30 minute long messing with packages. Install/customize after booting.

It is necessary only to make a KDE style based on this YaST style and SuSE will be unbeaten!

Bigger/better fonts, please.

opensuse11 will rock. if only it would install on my system. I am using 10.2 because 10.3 hangs during installation. not one of ubuntu 6.06, 7.04, 7.10 live cd’s haven’t booted on it either. i am stuck on opensuse 10.2 fedora 8 gnome got onto it once, but fedora 8 kde installation froze and took my boot partition with it as well
opensuse11 will rock. if only it would install on my system.
