Gwibber

I looked around for a decent dark theme for Gwibber today. And since I haven’t found any, and saw that most of the themes go with the horrid table based layout, I went ahead and made one.

It needs to have proper gtk color support, hopefully soon(ish). At least I have a master to go to :) .

To install, untar to ~/.local/share/gwibber/ui/themes/.

Very nice! Do you mind if I bundle it with the next version of Gwibber?

For an example of how to use native GTK+ colors in a Gwibber theme, you might want to look at the setGtkConfig function in the Shine theme:

    http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~gwibber-committers/gwibber/trunk/annotate/head%3A/ui/themes/shine/theme.html

Feel free to send me an e-mail fi you have any questions. I’m currently working on a new theme engine for Gwibber where the HTML will be generated through a templating system rather than with JavaScript string concatenation. I’d welcome your feedback and suggestions for how I can make it better serve your needs.

what gtk theme & metacity theme are you using? thanks

  3. jimmac Says:

@Ryan: Of course not, I’d be delighted. I beter to fix up the digg stuff first though. I’ve put the thing in git repo if you wish to be uptodate — http://github.com/jimmac/gwibber-darkilouche/tree/master

@anonim Been using it for about an hour :) It’s ‘Nodoka-Midnight’ gtk+ and ‘Skiki-Dark’ metacity theme.

Brilliant! Huge fan of gwibber and gilouche. How cool is this? Plus, I just switched to a semi dark theme…perfect timing. Thank-you. :)

  5. Bryen Says:

Very nice indeed. The default font size however is smaller than Gwibber’s default, and the colorizing of source messages doesn’t seem to work. (e.g., Blue for facebook, red for Twitter, green for Identi.ca, etc.)

I do like the nice effect of text being highlighted when overing over a message. Great work dude!

Now to go see if I can get the captcha below right on the first try. :-)

Very good dark theme. But I feel we need the classic non-dark(tango styled) theme too. Just something to go with the standard clearlooks theme.

  7. Sandy Says:

This is brilliant. Awesome use of space, much better text-sizing, and fits into my current Murrine Wise Dark theme wonderfully. I just gushed about it to my team for like 10 minutes.

  8. Dom Says:

Nice theme. Needs a few fixes* here and there but otherwise looks good for inclusion in Gwibber!

    * imo ‘in reply to’ should be same size font as ‘x minutes ago’ ‘from abc’
    * as Ryan says, it would be excellent if it made use of GTK colours to change for light/dark themese
    * it would be great if protocol separation (usually done by changing background colour in other themes) could be put across — perhaps just a small coloured triangle in the top right or left of each message showing the colour associated with the protocol account?

Very good theme and goes well with the dust theme that I am using on Ubuntu. I checked out the current version on github and it comes out light and pretty unuseable, but the version above works fine.

[...] Google Reader, I saw a nice-looking Gwibber theme by chance, downloaded Gilouche 0.2, untared it ~/.local/share/gwibber/ui/themes/ , and actived it, [...]

  13. jimmac Says:

@Dom: most of your requests is in git at the moment, but completely untested as my version of gwibber doesn;t seem to support any of that.

  14. KongK Says:

Path to untar to in Ubuntu: /usr/share/gwibber/ui/themes

  15. devolute Says:

Thanks for this. I’ve just started using Gwibber (and Linux) and this is by far the most attractive option.

In your screen shot, what font do you use, btw?

  16. jimmac Says:

It’s the sans-serif variant of the Android platform font, Droid.

  17. dael99 Says:

  19. mandu666 Says:

how can i change the tray-icon of gwibber in ubuntu?

  20. fernando trasvi?ħa Says:

if you are in ubuntu and installed from synaptic the right path is: /usr/share/gwibber/ui/themes

  21. fernando trasvi?ħa Says:

i cant seem to get it working, does not display on the list of available themes.
    im using version 2.0.0

  22. jimmac Says:

fernando: these don’t work on the current gwibber versions anymore. There’s been a complete rewrite in the meantime.

  23. soifran Says:
